This workshop aims to identify and share concrete practices for educators and school leaders in developing social justice and anti-bias practices with a culturally responsive lens that are aligned with Common Core State Standards. The demographics in our country are evolving at tremendous speed, and educators must be equipped with culturally responsive language, strategies, and tools to best support their students. This presentation will demonstrate how to create CCSS aligned lessons that utilize social justice and multicultural themes in order to support teachers’ planning, and integrate all subject areas. This includes identifying initial steps to take in developing concrete practices in schools, beginning with self-reflection exercises, norming language, samples of original lessons and student work, and initial steps to building programs.
